Location/things to do:

Portland is quite a beautiful city situated on either side of the Willamette River. There is always a lot to do in and around Portland throughout the year. Portland has lovely gardens, including the Japanese Garden, which has a reputation for being one of the best in the country. The Rose Test gardens at Washington Park are also highly regarded among rose fanciers. There are unique neighborhood centers which have undergone refurbishing and revival in the past few years and each offers interesting locally-owned shops and marvelous restaurants many of which specialize in “Northwest Cuisine.”

Several neighborhoods and communities feature clusters of antiques and collectible shops. Further afield, the beauty of the area can be enjoyed with a visit through the Columbia River Gorge, around the Mt. Hood Loop, up to Mt. St. Helens, over to the Oregon Coast, or while visiting the wine country to sample some of the Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris which are giving Oregon wineries a justly-deserved high reputation all over the world. These “day trips” will increase your enjoyment of a visit to Portland and all are within convenient driving distance from Rose Cottage.

Be sure to let Sally, who is a fourth-generation Oregonian, know of your travel plans so she can assist you in making your trip throughout the state as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
